Thank you Barnes & Noble for creating the Nook. I had hesitated, well no, I had flat out refused to move into the word of digital books. Then you came along with your 2 screens and your sexy color cover flow. I simply had to have you. So I got you. And dove into digital with both feet and haven’t looked back. Thanks to the Nook I discovered the world of authors who are primarily digital only. Oh, I was missing out!
One of my first discoveries was Samhain Publishing. Well it wasn’t exactly a new discovery. I had read about them and spent some time at their web site when they first started in 2005. But in 2005 I wasn’t ready to give up my paper books and I thought all the eReaders available were ugly. *grin* So when I was seduced by Nook and had gotten comfortable with digital books by purchasing them from the B&N site I moved outward. Can’t remember exactly how I ended up again at Samhain but I am so glad I did. I discovered a ton of new authors and a plethora of wonderful books!
Meet Erin Nicholas. God knows I was thrilled to. The online excerpt drew me in and I quickly purchased and read “Just Right“.
ER nurse Jessica Bradford is a good girl. Okay, a reformed bad girl, but she’s done her late father proud. Now she’s one step away from landing Dr. Perfect, aka handsome, sexy, heroic Ben Torres—the hot fudge and cherry on top of her hard work scooping out a respectable life.
Ben learned the art of sacrifice from his missionary parents, but when a drunk driver he saved kills three people, he quits. To be precise, the fist he plants in the man’s face gets him suspended. And the first dish he wants on his newly empty plate is Jessica—preferably naked.
Jessica can’t believe the Ben she’s found drowning his sorrows in a bar is her knight in shining scrubs. And he won’t be pried loose until she bets 48 hours of her time in a game of pool. She loses. And the next morning she stands to lose much more.
The Chief of Staff’s recommendation for the promotion she’s been after rides on her ability to keep Ben out of trouble until things blow over.
Except “trouble” is all Ben wants. And despite herself, Jessica finds that she’s more than willing to go down with him…
I really like work place romances but this is oh so much more. Both wounded Jessica and Ben dance around their feelings. They have solid reasons for their reservations (being co-workers is only one) and it’s simply wonderful to watch these two strong willed, intelligent, passionate people learn about themselves and how to love each other. Erin Nicholas is not afraid to show the flaws in either of her characters and not only is it refreshing it makes them so much more real. You don’t get the kind of info dump on their backgrounds that I’ve seen in way too many novels, she is excellent at the ‘show, don’t tell rule’ of writing. No two dimensional cookie cutters here. Truly fleshed out people who happen to have pretty damn excellent sex! And there not one thing wrong with that! The sex scenes are passionate, flow with the story and are not at all cliched. In a word HOT!
It had been awhile since I had read any romances outside of the Nora Roberts template of books. You know what I mean? Nora writes a good book but, well, they are all mostly the same plot with new names. In Just Right Erin Nicholas made sure that Jess and Ben didn’t fall predictably into their HEA and I loved every second of it.
It’s also a delightful introduction to a whole cast of characters who are as richly and fully developed as the hero and heroine. Two Bradford siblings and a drool worthy ambulance crew of Paramedics. Yeah, medical romances are hot too.
Thankfully there are two more books in the Bradford series. I’ve already devoured them and reviews are soon to follow.
Thank you Ms. Nicholas. Thank you for crafting such a wonderful romance it took me far, far away from my every day life but still kept my feet on the ground. Bravo and well done!

Oh! I adored this one and I already have read all of the other ones. Just working on the reviews. I think I downloaded “Just Right” 3 second after it was up at My Bookstore and More. Can’t wait for her next one to come out.
